Ahh, the New Year, a time for new beginnings and new goals? I never really got down with the term “resolution” when it came to the New Year. I’m not sure why, but I think it has something to do with always feeling like a resolution was so final and inflexible as opposed to a goal which you could tweak as time passes and priorities change.
Any who, I’m always setting goals for my self, it has actually began to become a bit of a bad habit. I know what you’re thinking, “But Lae, setting goals to reach and trying to improve yourself is a good thing!” And you’re right, it is. But the problem is I often set goals a littttle too often. And I’m not talking daily goals like deciding to finish a work or school assignment by the end of the day, I could probably actually benefit from more of those type. No, the types of goals I set for myself too often are a little more commitment involved and require more planning than a brief “I will do X, Y, and Z.” imply.
So, this year, not unlike others, I am setting new goals for myself. The goal for theses goals (haha, goalception?) is to write them in a fashion that’s easily digestible for the year. In other words they are a little more specific. So, some of my goals for 2016 are:
- Read at least 12 books-at least 5 must be non class-assigned and of my own choosing (which means if I get 12 books to read in class this year, I still have to read at least 5 of my choosing).
- Send in 6 written works to be published (They don’t have to get published to fulfill the goal (although that would be fantastic) I just want to get in the habit of writing and sending in articles for publishing.
- Call my best friend between 2-4 times a month ( I know this may sound low, but we’re both busy ladies, and this doesn’t include texting, just video chatting/calling).
- Improve my proficiency in French by 2 levels in each category (reading, writing, listening, oral expression and grammar.
As I mentioned earlier these are (some of) my goals for the New Year and I am super excited about them, especially French Proficiency one. I’ve been dreaming of a life lived in French since I was a kid and it would be so cool to finally live it :D.
What are you seeing for yourself this year? What are you looking forward to goal-wise? Or do you prefer to call them resolutions? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below 🙂 .
Happy New Year!
