The #1 Thing You Can Do to Stick to Your Goals for 2017

Happy New Year y’all! I hope your New Year has been a particularly good one 🙂 .

Today, I wanna talk about goals and something you can do to stick to them. After all, it is the New Year 😉 . When it comes to talking about New Year’s Resolutions, it’s easy to get caught up in the “New Year, New Me” syndrome because it feels great to dream and have something to look forward to and want to work for. However, many of us drop our resolutions before spring can even come around and then we blink and it’s December all over again.

Well, I’m not any different. This happens to me often, and not just at the beginning of the year, because I tend to set goals all throughout the year. Now, I finally figured out one of the biggest factors (outside of poor planning) keeping me from accomplishing my goals. I fail to keep my WHY in mind.



You know, that reason that sparks the goal in the first place. It could be: to feel healthier or to be debt-free. Maybe your WHY is a who and not a what like: to help support your family or to be a good example to someone you care for and want to see do great things.

Here’s the thing about having a WHY, we all start with one…it’s the very thing that makes us set goals and resolutions in the first place. The problem is this: Once we start to identify all the steps to reach our goal, our focus shifts to the HOW and away from the  WHY.

Now, it is important to know what it takes to reach our goal (the how), but at some point, using all the brain power it takes to establish those new habits becomes exhausting… and so we don’t look at our WHY so much anymore. Or even at all. That’s when we stop trying.



This year, I’m making it a goal to read my goals and my WHY every… single… day. That’s 365 times in one year. I know it sounds extreme, but honestly it takes 5 minutes (if not less) and I strongly believe that it will help me keep going on the days that I really “Just don’t feel like it.”  I believe it can do this for you too!

So, not only do I have a print out that says ‘Remember Your Why” on the wall by my desk (somewhere I sit everyday), but I also have “Print pictures of my why” on my to-do list today (because my WHY is a who.)

It’s such a simple and quick task that’s easy to fit in my schedule that I don’t know why I didn’t think about it earlier.



I would love it if you join me in this goal of mine and, to make it easier, I’ve created a little template for you. This template is to help you display your WHY in as many places as you’d like without getting a hand cramp. Because, let’s be honest with ourselves, if it’s hanging in multiple places we look everyday, it’s harder to ignore 🙂 . Once you print it and fill it out, post it anywhere you will see it everyday. Heck! Print a couple and post them in more than one spot if you like.
